The all-new Scott Addict has been completely redesigned with the goal of being a "long-ride-ready" bike, marking a significant evolution from its predecessor. The project's lead engineer, Jean-François Boivin, focused on a riding experience that prioritizes practicality and comfort, fundamentally rethinking the endurance bike concept.
Technical Analysis and Features
The new Addict was developed to provide 50% more vibration absorption than the previous model. This increased compliance is the result of an optimized frame design and sophisticated component integration. The bike is built to accommodate tires up to 38 mm wide, with a frame geometry specifically adapted for that size.
One of the main innovations is a discreet storage compartment integrated into the down tube. The bike also inherits several key elements from the Addict RC, including a multi-tool housed in the handlebar, a lightweight seatpost clamp, and tube profiles with smooth, clean lines that contribute to a sleek and functional aesthetic.
First Impressions on the Ride
On-road testing of the Scott Addict 10, equipped with an HMX carbon frame, confirmed its dedication to comfort from the very first mile. The geometry has been modified with a shorter reach and a taller stack, placing the rider in a more upright and relaxed posture. This configuration enhances comfort and improves bike handling on uneven terrain, similar to what you'd find on some gravel bikes.
Comfort is further boosted by the 34 mm tires and the frame's increased flexibility, achieved through thinner horizontal and vertical tubes. The rear seat stays, which curve outward, absorb vibrations and road imperfections.
Stiffness and Performance Test
Despite the emphasis on comfort, the new Addict frame maintains a high level of stiffness. During development, three prototypes with varying stiffness levels in the bottom bracket and head tube were tested. The results showed a clear preference for the prototype that offered stiffness levels comparable to the Addict RC.
This characteristic translates into precise steering and a responsive power transfer, which is especially noticeable on high-speed descents. The bike feels efficient and reactive under power while still providing a stable and secure ride.
Practicality and Versatility
The Scott Addict 10 is designed for maximum practicality. The storage compartment in the down tube, accessible via a dedicated hatch near the bottom bracket, can hold an emergency kit with a tube and pump. The bike is also compatible with an integrated frame bag, perfect for carrying small essentials. The design is optimized to provide functionality without compromising aesthetics.
The integration of Syncros components across the Addict and Addict RC models allows for cockpit customization, enabling a more or less aggressive riding position depending on the rider's preference. This highlights the frame's versatility, as it can be adapted for both long, comfortable rides and more dynamic riding.
