New Merida Reacto 2026-2027: Fifth Generation Technical Analysis

The Merida Reacto has long been considered one of the most complete aero bikes on the market, capable of balancing pure speed with surprising comfort for the category. Five years after the launch of the current version (IV), prototypes spotted under the pros of Team Bahrain Victorious confirm that the new Merida Reacto 2026-2027 is now ready for its debut. The challenge? To make a project that has already won "Best in Test" worldwide even faster.

Technical Analysis: The Era of the UCI 8:1 Rule

The most radical change in the future Reacto lies in the tube shapes, which take advantage of the new UCI technical regulations.

"Deep Aero" Profile: Thanks to the abolition of the old 3:1 rule in favor of the 8:1 ratio, the new Reacto features a much deeper, "sword-like" head tube. This allows it to slice through the air with drastically reduced drag compared to the past.

Sculpted Fork: The fork crown now integrates more seamlessly into the down tube, with a sharp angular line designed to divert turbulence away from the rider's legs.

CF5 V Carbon: For the top-of-the-line series, Merida is testing a new carbon layup (CF5 V) that aims to keep the frame weight around 950-1000 grams, an exceptional result for a bike with such extreme profiles.

Integration and Cooling

Merida won't abandon its trademarks but will evolve them for 2027:

Disc Cooler 2.0: The iconic cooling fins for the disc brakes will be integrated even more aerodynamically into the frame, ensuring consistent braking performance on long Alpine descents.

Vision Metron 60 RS Cockpit: The bike has been tested with new Vision wheelsets featuring 60mm profiles and an even slimmer integrated handlebar, designed to completely hide all cabling.

UDH Standard: Merida is also aligning with the Universal Derailleur Hanger (UDH) standard, making the 2027 Reacto compatible with the latest "Direct Mount" wireless drivetrains.

Range and Builds

The 2026-2027 range will maintain the distinction between professional and consumer frames:

Merida Reacto Team (CF5): An exact replica of the race bikes, equipped with Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 or SRAM Red AXS and a power meter as standard.

Reacto 8000 / 9000 (CF3): Versions with a slightly less extreme carbon grade but the exact same geometry and aerodynamics, ideal for those seeking maximum speed at the best price.

Reacto 4000 (Entry Level): The gateway model into the Merida aero world with more contained costs, typically equipped with Shimano 105.

Pricing and Availability

Despite the innovations, Merida will strive to maintain its traditionally competitive price-performance ratio:

Reacto Team: €10,500 – €11,500

Reacto 8000 (Ultegra Di2): €5,800 – €6,500

Reacto 4000: €2,800 – €3,200

The official release is expected by mid-2026, with widespread availability in stores starting in early 2027. While Merida has not yet released final specifications, the prototypes seen at the Tour indicate that development is in its final stages.
