New 2027 Specialized Epic HT: The Challenge to Gravity Continues

In the world of XC racing, the name "Epic" evokes pure speed. While the Epic 8 has redefined the full-suspension concept, the New 2027 Specialized Epic HT is preparing to shake up the hardtail segment. In an era where many brands are abandoning front-suspension bikes, Specialized seems determined to prove that for the fastest climbs, nothing beats an ultra-light, rigid frame.

Here is everything we know (and speculate) about the queen of the climbs for the 2027 season.
Rumors and Technical Features: Pushing the Limits of FACT 12m

The current frame is already an engineering masterpiece, weighing in at less than 800 grams. For the 2027 version, Morgan Hill engineers are likely focusing on three main fronts:

FACT 13m Carbon? It is possible Specialized will introduce a new, even more refined carbon layup to shave off more weight while simultaneously improving the vibration damping capabilities of the rear triangle.

"Stealth" Integration: Following the trend of the Epic 8 and road bikes like the Tarmac SL8, the new Epic HT 2027 will likely adopt fully integrated cable routing through the headset. This offers a clean cockpit and eliminates aerodynamic turbulence—crucial in modern XC racing.

Extreme "Progressive XC" Geometry: We expect an even slacker head tube angle (approaching 67.5°) and a slightly longer reach to provide stability on technical descents that were once the exclusive territory of full-suspension bikes.

Micro-Suspension Technology: Some rumors suggest Specialized is testing a structural micro-suspension system (similar to the Future Shock seen on road models or specific carbon vibration inserts) to make the frame less "nervous" on rough terrain.

Weight: The Hunt for 750 Grams

While the current S-Works model tips the scales at around 790g, the goal for the 2027 Epic HT is to get close to 750 grams for a painted frame. A complete S-Works build could weigh significantly less than 8.5 kg (without pedals), solidifying its position as the absolute benchmark for power-to-weight ratio.
Price and Versions

Specialized will likely maintain the classic distinction between frame tiers:

S-Works Epic HT: The flagship model with FACT 12m (or higher) carbon. Estimated complete bike price: €11,500 – €12,500.

Epic HT Expert/Comp: Versions using FACT 11m carbon—more accessible but still race-ready. Prices ranging between €3,500 and €6,500.

Release Date: When will it hit the shops?

The Epic Hardtail has skipped the most recent annual refresh cycles. Insiders predict an official presentation between late 2026 and early 2027, with a possible preview during next season’s World Cup stages.
2027 Technical Projections
Component S-Works Epic HT 2027 (Hypothesis)
Frame FACT 12m/13m Carbon, Rider-First Engineered™
Drivetrain SRAM XX SL Eagle Transmission (T-Type)
Fork RockShox SID SL Ultimate Flight Attendant (110mm)
Wheels Roval Control SL (30mm internal width)
Handlebar Roval Control SL Integrated Cockpit

Expert Opinion: "The 2027 Epic HT won’t just be a bike for climbers. If Specialized successfully integrates Flight Attendant electronics natively into the hardtail fork, we will have a racing machine capable of adapting to the terrain instantaneously, closing the comfort gap with full-suspension bikes on all but the most extreme sections."
