Wilier Filante ID2 2026: Photos, Price, and Technical Analysis of the MY26 Model
The Wilier Filante ID2, the latest evolution of the professional-level aero-allrounder race bicycle, has been officially launched, promising a significant advance in aerodynamic performance and structural stiffness. This model, utilized by the WorldTour team Groupama-FDJ, establishes new efficiency benchmarks.
Aerodynamic Efficiency and Performance Gains
Wilier declares that the new Filante ID2 exhibits a 13.6% aerodynamic improvement over its predecessor. This figure resulted from analyses conducted at the Silverstone wind tunnel in the UK, surpassing the 12% expectation from CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) modeling. With a rider aboard, the registered aerodynamic benefit is 4.5%.
Quantitatively, this improvement translates to a drag reduction of 14.15 watts at a speed of 40 km/h. Simulating a distance of 70 km at an output of 290 W, the time saved is 1 minute and 45 seconds.
Furthermore, in a direct comparison against five rival WorldTour bicycles, the Filante ID2 proved to be an average of 2.42% faster.
Frame Architecture and Stiffness
The frame is constructed using a blend of high-modulus carbon fibers, specifically M46JB, T1100, and T800. The claimed weight for the frame alone is 860 g.
In terms of torsional stiffness, a 7.5% increase in the bottom bracket area has been registered compared to the previous Filante generation. A complete bicycle, equipped with a Shimano Dura-Ace groupset, has an overall weight of 7.1 kg.
Key Aerodynamic Innovations
The aerodynamic gain is primarily attributed to several targeted design interventions:
Downtube Design and Bottle Cage System: A significant portion of the aero gain stems from the optimized shape of the downtube, specifically designed to shield the custom aero bottles and cages developed in collaboration with Elite. Wilier asserts that the bicycle is more aerodynamic with the bottles mounted than without, reducing drag by more than two-thirds compared to standard systems. The system provides a total capacity of 1,100 ml with the aero bottles while maintaining compatibility with standard round bottles, as mandated by race regulations.
Rear Triangle and Tire Clearance: The rear triangle has been revised to accommodate tires with a maximum clearance of up to 34 mm. The seatstays are now angled slightly inward, at a 2.5 degree angle, to optimize the airflow interaction with the rider's legs. The chainstay length has been slightly increased to 41.1 cm.
Components and Integration
F-Bar ID2 Integrated Handlebar: The Filante ID2 adopts Wilier's latest iteration of the integrated bar/stem system, named F-Bar ID2. Consistent with other high-performance models, the handlebar features a 3 degree of flare (splay). Three width options are available (350/380 mm, 370/400 mm, and 390/420 mm) with stem lengths ranging from 75 mm to 120 mm. The design fully encloses the clamping hardware, protecting it from contamination.
Seatpost: The aero and vibration-damping seatpost profile from the Supersonica SLR time trial bike has been adopted. It comes standard with 0 mm setback, with the option to request a 15 mm setback version during ordering.
Di2 Battery Bay: Following modern design trends, the Shimano Di2 battery could not be housed in the seatpost and has been relocated to the bottom bracket area, contained within an easily removable resin casing. This placement also contributes to lowering the center of gravity, improving high-speed stability.
Fork and Thru-Axle: The fork has been updated with a new aero blade profile, a more robust crown for increased torsional stiffness, and an aerodynamic fin on the left leg to optimize airflow around the brake caliper. The thru-axle bolt on the right leg features a "blind" design for a smoother profile. The bike is equipped with a rear UDH (Universal Derailleur Hanger) and the front derailleur mount is removable, ensuring compatibility with SRAM Full Mount 1x13 speed groupsets or a single chainring up to 56 teeth.
Configuration Options and Pricing
The Wilier Filante ID2 is available in five color options and six frame sizes. The combinations of sizes and components offer 420 different sizing options.
Wheel options include the high-spec Miche Kleos RD 50 set (claimed weight 1,445 g) and the lower-spec Miche Kleos 50 (1,545 g claimed weight). A frameset option (including the F-Bar ID2, aero kit, and computer mount) is also available for 5,800 €.
Below are the list prices for some of the complete builds (VAT included for the European market):
Campagnolo Super Record 13 w/o power meter, Miche Kleos RD 50: 13,100 €
