Trek Emonda ALR 5 2023 Road test review Build quality

We are at an entry level, a little further, but with a good value for money.

All well done and cared for, even if the bike is not light at all.

In fact, the total weight of the bike is about 9Kg, not a little, but not so far from the other models, which already cost twice as much.

In fact, direct competitors do no better.

The price/weight/quality ratio is more than valid, considering that the bike costs around 2600 euros.

Trek Emonda ALR 5 2023 Road Test Review Frame

The frame is well made, one of the best aluminum frames on the market today.

The coloring is very well done, even particular.

That said, the good availability of sizes and the excellent overall build quality should also be noted.

Trek Emonda ALR 5 2023 Road Test Assemblies Review

The assembly is valid, basic but reliable.

Nothing to report except an overall weight not very suitable for an uphill bike, but it is almost impossible to do better starting from this price and with these components.

An excellent choice, the mechanical Shimano 105 group is simple, cheap and reliable, excellent for this type of racing bike.

Trek Emonda ALR 5 2023 Road test Comfort review

It's not an endurance bike and the aluminum frame responds drier and stiffer than a carbon one.

Overall, however, the ride comfort is sufficient to go on long rides without having a broken back.

Direct competitors do no better.

For greater comfort, you need to switch to a carbon frame.

Trek Emonda ALR 5 2023 Road Test Review Guide

The handling of all Trek Emonda racing bikes is similar, but not the same.

The more the weight of the bicycle increases, the more its stability and safety at high speeds increase, but with this aluminum frame the cornering speed and responsiveness also increase.

The Trek Emonda ALR 5 2023 therefore follows the driving qualities of the Emonda range, but with greater speed when entering corners and changing direction.

A frame that is more reactive and faster in following the commands given, but still easily controllable.

Fast and safe downhill, it remains an intuitive bike to ride, which you get to know quickly and which you can have fun with in complete safety.

Braking is good, which at most is only affected by the greater overall risk of slowing down.

Slightly stiff on bumpy roads, where you need to keep the handlebar firmly in place.

It is very little affected by side winds.

A beautiful guide, easy to intuitive, at times even rewarding for its performance.

A nice frame.

Trek Emonda ALR 5 2023  Road test review Performance

The weak point of this Trek Emonda ALR 5 is clearly the weight, competitive in its price range, but high in absolute terms.

A pity because instead the frame is stiff and responsive, it transmits power well, you can see it on the plains, where it keeps up with much more expensive racing bikes.

Excellent performance downhill and on guided tours.

The only negative point is the hard climb, where the weight of the bike really counts.

Very competitive against similarly priced racing bikes, on many occasions it manages to be competitive even against much more expensive racing bikes.

It is however a balanced racing bike at ease on any route.

A great example of how to make an entry level bike, but not necessarily a bad one.

Trek Emonda ALR 5 2023 Road test review Pros and cons

The Trek Emonda ALR 5 2023 is a valid racing bike, with decent performance and good value for money.

Weight is its real limit, in absolute terms, otherwise the bike is very competitive against other alternatives in terms of frame type and price.

On the plains, hills and downhill, however, its performance is valid in absolute terms and excellent for its category.

Downhill it can keep up with much more expensive racing bikes.

Only uphill does it stay in line with its direct rivals and back with more expensive bikes.

The high weight is its fault, but there are no cheaper and lighter alternatives.
