Sram has filed the patents for a new AXS gearbox, which could see the light in 2024, with a presentation at Eurobike 2023 and enter the range with the new 2024 bikes.

The patent consists of a mechanism that allows the AXS rear derailleur to self-feed a micro battery, with a weight saving on the rear derailleur and an infinite duration of battery autonomy.

The micro battery would only be used for starting off or when the chain doesn't turn, otherwise the classic gear wheels would activate a micro dynamo that would recharge the battery and the current generated would also be sufficient for the operation of the AXS gearbox.

This system could be adopted on the new Sram Red AXS 2024 group and on the new Sram Mtb 2024 groups, in addition to the new Sram Apex 2024.
