It was 2009 when a young athlete won the MTB World Championships in Canberra, Australia. Nino's first elite world champion title and only the first of many to come. In 2010 at the XCO Dalby Forest World Cup race, Nino Schurter outsprinted Julien Absalon in a photo finish to win his first MTB World Cup. Not to forget the bronze medal at the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008 and a silver medal in London in 2012, as well as many other SCALE-related victories and titles.

The ALL NEW Scale RC SL is the perfect blend of stiffness, light weight and 30 years of carbon experience. These characteristics, enclosed in an uncompromising frame design, make the SCALE one of the most performing and innovative front bikes on the market.

The design of the SCALE aims at the pursuit of perfection and pure efficiency, strictly following the guiding principle of "Form follows function". In our quest for the ultimate build, we aimed to design the essentials to create a new XC racing bike. The result of this work is a linear and clear design, which gives the new Scale its distinctive character and aggressive look: a bike that proudly displays its characteristics.

GEOMETRY
Looking at the overall frame layout, we gathered years of feedback from the world's fastest athletes to meticulously fine-tune the geometry of the new Scale RC. One of the main objectives when designing the new Scale RC was to offer a geometry that optimizes the riding position and handling characteristics for riders and trails of all types. Working with athletes like Nino Schurter, Kate Courtney and the rest of the SCOTT-SRAM Racing Team, we were able to pinpoint exactly what we wanted in terms of geometry. The geometry of the all-new Scale was inspired by the winning geometry of our world championship-winning full suspension race bike, the Spark RC, but optimized to carve out the characteristics of a thoroughbred XC hardtail.

CARBON ENGINEERING
The brand new Scale is a real jewel that enhances the artisanal use of carbon. Balancing the characteristics of the different carbon fibers creates a specific mix for each section of the bike and develops the character of the bike. Balancing the sophisticated mix of different carbon fibers into one system and letting the materials do what they're meant to do is a testament to the carbon expertise we've built up over these 30 years.

The monocoque construction of the new Scale RC allows production using a single mold for the main section of the bike, the front triangle. Applying our carbon expertise, the new Scale is therefore made up of just 3 separate pieces molded together. This translates directly into a higher level of efficiency due to the reduced number of joints required, thus reducing weight while maintaining superior stiffness, something we always aim for with hardtail race bikes. With the complete frame built as a system, the monocoque design allows the frame to handle forces as a whole.

WEIGHT
When it comes to promoting a product to the highest level, it all boils down to the minor details. It's these that have a real impact on the performance of both the bike and the rider. It's more than a benefit measured in single grams. A meticulously developed system that balances an optimal mix of stiffness, strength and just the right amount of comfort. With the brand new Scale RC, we have hit the sweet spot and optimized the weight across the entire product range. When developing the new Scale RC, we deliberately wanted to do a few things differently. The Scale RC features some clever construction solutions that manage to optimize weight and demonstrate SCOTT's power of innovation. These features are found in all of the Scale RC's carbon frame options: HMX-SL, HMX and HMF.

With the brand new Scale RC, the weight of the small parts has almost halved, going from the previous 82 g to 45 g in total (HMX-SL). This has been achieved by reducing the use of metal inserts including the chain guide, bottle cage inserts and a reduced amount of parts thanks to the integration

With the all new Scale RC we have consistently reduced the amount of metal inserts wherever possible.

Instead, lighter polymer versions have been incorporated such as bottle cage inserts on the HMX-SL frames. These can be fully inserted, sitting flush on the frame thanks to an intelligent and flexible locking mechanism. Being able to choose the necessary plugs or holders gives riders maximum flexibility and further eliminates potential vulnerable points as these are easily replaced in the event of a damaged thread. Plugs and inserts are easy to set up without the need for additional tools and further contribute to the overall clean design.

The dropout features an advanced hollow structure, which allows the axle head to lock against the inner surface of the dropout and leaves the head flush with the surface. This allows for the lightest possible build approach and a clean looking design from the outside. While able to directly shed 7.5g with the new dropout construction, the streamlined design favors a narrower construction of the rear triangle area, which in turn allows for a 20g reduction in this area of the frame.

A small opening, accessible through a downtube cover, allows easy access inside the frame without the need to remove the bottom bracket. Frame maintenance is simplified in terms of cable routing.

The chain guide has been streamlined to be flush with the frame. This tiny bracket offers the most minimalist construction. When not in use, the bracket fixed within the frame can be easily removed and the opening can be covered completely with a clever cover offering a clean design.

HANDLEBAR
The new Scale features a brand new Fraser iC combination from Syncros. Syncros designers worked on the shape to allow cables to run under and around the sides of the stem before disappearing into the headset with integrated plastic parts to keep it clean and efficient. This avoids bends or kinks in the cables and provides a minimalistic front end.
With the new Scale, you can also adjust the steering angle by +/- 0.6 degrees. This can be done without cutting any cables or bleeding the brakes. All you have to do is disassemble the handlebars, rotate the headset cups 180 degrees and reassemble.
