Cervélo R5 2026: Price, Weight, and Design of the New Model

Cervélo has launched the fifth generation of its super-lightweight climber's bike, the R5. This model, first spotted at the 2025 Tour de France, combines low weight with a classic design, representing a niche but captivating choice in the modern road bike landscape.

Technical Specifications and Performance

The new R5 was engineered with the goal of minimizing weight. The manufacturer claims a frame weight of 657 g and a fork weight of 302 g. While lighter frames exist, these numbers are notable for a disc brake bike.

During the Tour de France, the R5 used by the Visma-Lease a Bike team weighed in at 7.03 kg (size 58 cm, with bottle cages). Removing the bottle cages, the weight approaches the UCI limit of 6.8 kg, a remarkable result for a large frame. The lightest complete R5 builds can dip as low as 5.97 kg, well below the regulatory limit.

Design and Construction Features

The R5 2026 stands out for its design that evokes a traditional aesthetic while integrating the latest technologies.

Slim Profiles: The seatstays have been thinned to just 10 mm, the bare minimum, and frame junctions have been pared back to save weight.

Classic Geometry: The bike's silhouette maintains the clean, classic lines of a "double-diamond" frame, offering an elegance that sets it apart from modern aero bikes.

Modern Features: Despite its traditional appearance, the R5 is a cutting-edge bike. It includes a one-piece cockpit and provides ample tire clearance, making it suitable for the demands of modern cycling.

Availability and Pricing

The Cervélo R5 is positioned in an extremely high price bracket. The frameset alone costs €5,850. At launch, five complete builds are available, with prices ranging from €10,000 to €13,500. These costs make it an exclusive product, comparable to top-tier models like the S-Works Aethos frameset, which has a similar price.

Despite the high cost, the R5 represents an intriguing choice for professional cyclists and enthusiasts who are looking for a lightweight, classically designed alternative without compromising on technology.
