Van Rysel EDR CF Ultra: Lightweight and Accessible Endurance Bike
The new Van Rysel EDR CF Ultra endurance model stands out with its extremely light 830g frame and a competitive price under €3,500. Designed by the same team behind the RCR, ridden by the UCI Pro Team Decathlon-AG2R La Mondiale, the EDR CF Ultra positions itself as an alternative to premium endurance bikes, such as the Cannondale Synapse with SmartSense.
Key Features and Market Positioning
The EDR CF Ultra is a high-end endurance bicycle, exclusively equipped with electronic drivetrains and carbon wheelsets. It offers generous tire clearance, fender mounts, and three sets of bottle cage bosses. A limited-edition version with a dynamo hub and integrated lights is also available.
Despite its premium features, the EDR CF Ultra maintains Van Rysel's characteristic accessible pricing. The model equipped with 105 Di2 and Van Rysel VR35 carbon wheels is priced at €3,499. For comparison, the Cannondale Synapse Carbon 4 with 105 Di2 and alloy DT Swiss wheels retails at a significantly higher price, as does the Specialized Roubaix SL8 Comp with alloy wheels and Shimano 105 Di2.
Design and Construction
Van Rysel states that the new EDR CF Ultra frameset integrates the lightweight technology from its road race bikes with endurance geometry and construction designed for greater comfort over long distances. The frame is crafted from a blend of carbon fibers, predominantly high-modulus, contributing to a claimed weight of just 830g (medium size).
The carbon layup has been engineered to provide compliance at the rear dropouts while maintaining bottom bracket and head tube stiffness for optimal frame responsiveness. The front-end design is semi-integrated, utilizing Deda's DCR system, with brake hoses running in a channel beneath the stem and into the head tube. This solution aims to make the bike easier to maintain and adjust compared to fully integrated systems.
Long-Distance Functionality
The EDR CF Ultra is designed to meet the demands of long-distance riding, offering tire clearance up to 38mm, fender mounts, and three sets of bottle cage bosses (one under the down tube). The cockpit, developed in conjunction with Deda, allows for the easy installation of aero bars.
Limited Edition with Integrated Lighting
In addition to the two launch models, a limited-edition EDR CF Ultra is available, which includes a DT Swiss dynamo hub wheelset. This wheelset is the result of a partnership between DT Swiss and Taiwanese dynamo light specialists Shutter Precision (SP). This limited-edition version, featuring fully internally routed front and rear lighting and a USB charging port, is ideal for self-supported long-distance races and multi-day rides.

The launch range includes three models:
EDR CF Ultra LTD: Equipped with SRAM Force AXS and Swiss Side Hadron/DT Swiss SP dynamo hub wheels. Price: €5,099.
EDR CF Ultra Ultegra Di2: Features Swiss Side Hadron Allroad wheels. Price: €4,899.
EDR CF Ultra 105 Di2: Comes with Van Rysel VR35 carbon wheels. Price: €3,499.
The new bikes are available for pre-order at Decathlon stores in Europe starting today, and will be available in stores in early August.
