Trek Fuel+ EX 5 GEN 2 2026 E-Bike Test Review Pros Cons Performance Range Opinions Everything You (Really) Need to Know

Trek Fuel+ EX 5 GEN 2 2026 E-Bike Test Review Build Quality

The Trek Fuel+ EX 5 GEN 2 2026 E-Bike has a relatively high cost, but it is much more economical than the carbon frame version. The available sizes are the classic four basic ones. The 60Nm motor power is adequate. Part of this was intended to make the bicycle lightweight, but ultimately we are talking about approximately 21.9 kg and 5000 Euros. Too little or too much? The carbon frame version costs twice as much and weighs only slightly less... When we say that carbon frames on e-MTBs are a waste of money... we know what we are talking about... The overall build quality is sound, and the value for money is good, and better than the carbon frame version.

Trek Fuel+ EX 5 GEN 2 2026 E-Bike Test Review Frame

The frame of the Trek Fuel+ EX 5 GEN 2 2026 E-Bike is a small work of art, very well made, with modern geometry, and truly top-of-the-category build quality. It replicates the carbon frame version with a new weight distribution, designed so that the e-MTB handles like a traditional MTB. This has also led to some compromises, such as the motor with low torque, a small battery, and reduced range. The frame is, however, very well executed.

Trek Fuel+ EX 5 GEN 2 2026 E-Bike Test Review Assembly

The range of assemblies is complete and wide, with prices remaining high, but essentially, the choice is there for those who want this model. The build quality and assembly, in every version, is high. The value for money is very good, especially in the entry-level version (around 5000 Euros).

Trek Fuel+ EX 5 GEN 2 2026 E-Bike Test Review Comfort

With suspension travel of approximately 140mm and 150mm, it is unnecessary to elaborate on riding comfort. It remains at an excellent level. No differences are observed compared to the carbon fiber frame version.

Trek Fuel+ EX 5 GEN 2 2026 E-Bike Test Review Handling

The Trek Fuel+ EX 5 GEN 2 2026 E-Bike is certainly not a lightweight bicycle. However, it proves to have great handling balance and achieves the goal of behaving very similarly to a non-electric bicycle. Excellent traction and ease of riding uphill, with solid performance on the flats. No particular differences are noted compared to the carbon fiber frame version. Perhaps it is slightly stiffer and more reactive, and the steering is a bit twitchier, given the same suspension tuning, but nothing particularly relevant that would justify the sharp increase in cost of the carbon frame version. The handling on descents is excellent, where the Trek Fuel+ EX 5 GEN 2 2026 E-Bike genuinely behaves like a traditional MTB; only the greater weight is felt, but agility, stability, and handling balance are similar. Braking is excellent, and the suspensions are valid, smooth, and easy to tune. A great e-MTB suitable for descending, but also capable on climbs, perfect for fast and medium-slow trails, only struggling on very slow routes.

Trek Fuel+ EX 5 GEN 2 2026 E-Bike Test Review Performance

The high weight, motor power, and its real-world range are the weaknesses of the Trek Fuel+ EX 5 GEN 2 2026 E-Bike compared to its direct competitors. When stepping down from more powerful e-bikes, the difference is clearly felt, but when stepping down from the same Trek Fuel EX-e Carbon version, the differences are imperceptible. It is slightly slower than its direct competitor and has a slightly lower range. For long rides over 100km, an external battery becomes a mandatory accessory, but where you can go with the carbon fiber frame version, you can also go with this Trek Fuel+ EX 5 GEN 2 2026 E-Bike. Without the motor's boost, the Trek Fuel+ EX 5 GEN 2 2026 E-Bike remains fun on descents, but difficult and heavy to pedal on the flats and especially uphill. Running out of battery is always a problem, and this Trek Fuel+ EX 5 GEN 2 2026 E-Bike does not escape this often-forgotten detail... However, the ride dynamics are better than many e-bikes—stable, precise, fast, excellent overall. Its strong point is the descent, where it has few rivals, while on climbs and long routes, the lack of motor performance and greater range is felt. Overall, however, we would not exchange this Trek Fuel+ EX 5 GEN 2 2026 E-Bike for the more expensive carbon fiber version... Perhaps its best asset is this: it's good for the price and like many similar models. You shouldn't have to spend twice as much for only marginally more.

Trek Fuel+ EX 5 GEN 2 2026 E-Bike Test Review Pros and Cons

The Trek Fuel+ EX 5 GEN 2 2026 E-Bike has proven to be a very capable, competitive e-bike, and even better than the much more expensive carbon fiber frame version. Like all light e-MTBs, it has a less powerful motor and a reduced range. This may or may not be a problem. If you want an MTB with an added "electric boost," then this is your bike; otherwise, a heavier, more powerful e-bike with a greater range might be better. The price is good for what the Trek Fuel+ EX 5 GEN 2 2026 E-Bike offers.
