Shimano XT and Deore Di2 Wireless 2025-2026: Price, Weight, and Comparative Analysis with XTR Group

Shimano XT and Deore Di2 Wireless 2025-2026: Price, Weight, and Comparative Analysis with XTR Group

Soon after the launch of XTR Di2, Shimano quickly expanded its wireless electronic shifting technology to two additional mountain bike groups: XT M8200 and Deore M6200. We managed to get our hands on a sample of the XT group in its compact GS Enduro 1x12 configuration ahead of time, and naturally, we immediately put it on the scale before proceeding with the build. While the weight difference between some parts, like aluminum versus carbon wheels, is obvious, the disparity in other components might just surprise you.
Shimano XT Di2 Weight: Brakes

Starting with the same order as our previous XTR Di2 weight analysis, the XT group features the BL-M8200/BR-M8220 disc brake. As with XTR, Shimano offers two different brake options, both utilizing the new BL-M8200 brake lever. Riders can choose between the M8220 four-piston caliper for Enduro (or simply for greater braking power) or the M8200 two-piston caliper for XC or Trail setups. Aside from the brake rotor size, this is the only difference between the "XC" and "Enduro" groups.

Weighed with a full-length 1700mm hose and a lever pre-filled with the new LV brake oil, the total comes in at 331g. Claimed weights for the XT Enduro brake are only 3g more than the XTR Enduro Brake, with 310g/330g (front/rear) versus 307g/327g (front/rear). While the XTR brake offers a slightly better lever feel, the XT brake is priced at €247.00 per brake, compared to €307.00 for the XTR. The XT two-piston XC brake has a claimed weight of 287g/321g and will be sold for €224.00 per brake.

It's worth noting that no new brake rotors have been introduced with these groups; they will utilize any existing rotor, such as the RT-CL800, shown here in 180mm at 135g.
Shimano XT Di2 Weight: Crankset

Unlike the XTR group, there's only one crankset option for XT: the FC-M8200. This crankset features a 55mm chainline and is available in 160mm, 165mm, 170mm, and 175mm lengths. Our 170mm sample weighed 524g with hardware, but without the chainring.

Interestingly, the XTR Enduro crankset is actually heavier at 532g, but it features a reinforced spindle for enhanced durability in the event of major impacts. There's a typically substantial price difference between XT and XTR, with the XT crankset retailing for €177.00 compared to €290.00 for the XTR.

These cranksets continue to use the standard 24mm Shimano spindle, ensuring compatibility with existing bottom brackets like the BB-MT801, which weighs 77g.
Shimano XT Di2 Weight: Chainring

The XT SM-CRM86 chainring receives a similar redesign to the XTR ring, with more material strategically placed where impacts are most likely to occur. The smaller GS cassette inherently calls for a smaller chainring, so we were sent a 30t ring weighing 72g. XT chainrings are offered in sizes ranging from 28T to 36T.

Comparing this to an XTR 32t chainring at 65g, it's clear that some grams can be saved by upgrading. However, this comes at nearly double the price, with the XT chainring selling for €68.00 compared to €140.00 for the XTR.
Shimano XT Di2 Weight: Shifter

Moving on to the electronics, the XT SW-M8250 shift switch is almost identical to the XTR, including its weight. Our XT shifter registered 1g less than the XTR, but both have a claimed weight of 97g. They are essentially the same, except the XT shifter is €28.00 cheaper, with a price of €177.00 in either I-Spec EV or band clamp configurations.
Shimano XT Di2 Weight: GS Rear Derailleur

The rear derailleur, on the other hand, shows some clear differences. The XT is offered in both RD-M8250 SGS (long cage) and GS (short cage) versions, just like the XTR. We weighed the GS version here at 468g.

Comparing this to the XTR SGS version at 415g, it's clear that the XTR is lighter, even with a longer cage. But again, one must ask if that weight difference is worth €93.00, with the XT derailleur priced at €534.00. There are also two specific rear derailleur models for e-bikes, which are hard-wired without their own batteries. These are divided into an 11-speed Linkglide model and a 12-speed Hyperglide+ model, both with claimed weights of 427g and retail prices of €534.00.
Shimano XT Di2 Weight: GS Cassette

Like the derailleur, the CS-M8200 12-speed Hyperglide+ cassettes are available in two sizes: a 10-51t for SGS derailleurs and a 9-45t for GS. Here lies another significant portion of the weight difference, with the 9-45t cassette weighing 421g, compared to the XTR 10-51t at 365g. The XT 10-51t cassette has a claimed weight of 463g, almost a 100g difference.

However, when it comes time to replace that cassette, you'll be glad the XT version costs only €182.00 compared to the XTR cassette at €466.00. It's worth noting that, apart from the 9-45t cassette for the GS group, all new Shimano Di2 groups will use existing 12-speed cassettes and chains.
Shimano XT Di2 Weight: Chain

The CN-M8100 is an existing chain that will serve as the XT-level option, with a weight of 279g and a price of €58.00.
Shimano XT Di2 Weight: Wheels and Hubs

A set of WH-M8200 aluminum wheels will be offered in both 27.5" and 29", with 110/148mm spacing. These wheels are built around the new XT HB-M8210 Centerlock hubs. In the 29" version with tape and tubeless valves installed, the front wheel weighs 934g and the rear 1,071g. Prices are set at €234.00 for the front, €304.00 for the rear, or €534.00 for the set.

The hubs alone have claimed weights of 130g (front) and 251g (rear), and they are sold for €70.00 (front) and €168.00 (rear).
Total Weight Difference Between XTR and XT Di2

To compare the two complete XT and XTR Di2 groups, we focused on the Enduro builds complete with product-level 203mm brake rotors, chain, a 32t chainring, and the SGS rear derailleur and 10-51t cassette. Summing it all up, XTR, of course, comes out on top, but only by 166g. This includes the XTR Enduro crankset with a reinforced spindle, but it's not a huge difference. To be fair, it's also not a huge difference in price, with XT upgrade kits priced only €117.00 less than XTR (although most of the weight savings comes from the cassette, which is not included in an upgrade kit).

XT Di2 Upgrade Kits and Availability

Regarding pricing, it's important to note that Shimano will be offering upgrade kits that include everything you need for the new Di2 group to update an existing Hyperglide+ 12-speed Shimano drivetrain.

The Di2 Drivetrain Upgrade Kit will include a rear derailleur, shifter, battery, battery charger, and a 12s Quicklink, and will sell for €804.00. If you calculate the price, it's essentially the same as buying all the components individually, except you get an additional Quicklink for the chain, which Shimano requires as they are single-use only. Shimano emphasizes that this will be permanently available, not just at the time of launch. There are also four versions of the upgrade kit with a choice of SGS 10-51t or GS 9-45t derailleurs, and I-Spec EV or band clamp shifter mounts. Everything will be shipped in a nice presentation box made from easily recyclable paper and cardboard.

Shimano will also be offering disc brake upgrade kits, which will include right and left brake levers, front and rear calipers and hoses, installed metallic brake pads and additional resin pads, and 100ml of the new low viscosity oil. The brake upgrade kits will only be offered in the four-piston Enduro brake spec and are priced at €495.00.

All XT components are available starting today, from OEM partner brands and Shimano Dealers.
