Ridley Electrifies Gravel: Introducing the New E-ASTR

In autumn 2024, Ridley launched the ASTR RS, a gravel bike that quickly became a benchmark in the off-road world, praised for its blend of control and agility with tire clearance up to 52mm and performance-oriented geometry. Now, Ridley expands the ASTR family with an electric variant: the E-ASTR. This is the brand's second e-bike, offering every cyclist the opportunity to experience the unique feel of the ASTR—with an added boost.
From ASTR RS Acclaim to E-ASTR Innovation

The ASTR RS made a disruptive entry into the gravel world. It was Ridley's answer to increasingly technical and challenging trails, where responsiveness and maneuverability are key. Independent tests hailed it as a true revolution in the segment. This recognition pushed Ridley to go further, believing this platform deserved an electric future.

The E-ASTR ensures the same sporty and natural riding experience as the original model—with extra support, without compromising fluidity or control.
TQ HPR40: Compact Power, Natural Support

The E-ASTR is equipped with the brand-new TQ HPR40 motor. With the best torque-to-weight ratio in its class, near-silent operation, and an extremely natural response, this system redefines the boundaries between rider and assistance. Weighing only 1.2 kg for the motor and 1.42 kg for the battery, the overall weight remains extremely low. Aesthetically, the integration is impeccable: the motor is elegantly hidden behind the chainrings, while the battery is perfectly integrated into the downtube.

Faithful to Ridley's clean design philosophy, no display has been integrated into the top tube. Instead, discrete LEDs on the top of the handlebar indicate the selected assistance level. Both aesthetically and in terms of riding experience, the E-ASTR remains true to the essence of a true gravel bike. The motor is invisible—only those who look closely or ride it will perceive the difference.

Pedaling feels completely natural. The motor only intervenes when necessary and automatically deactivates above 25 km/h—precisely when it's no longer needed. There are no perceptible transitions and no added resistance. On slower or technical sections, the feeling is that of a constant tailwind. With a maximum torque of 40 Nm and up to 200 watts of supplementary power, the unit provides the right support to overcome any obstacle—without ever taking away from the joy of riding.

The 290 Wh battery is more than sufficient for most gravel rides. For those who desire more range, an optional 160 Wh range extender is available. As always, true to Ridley's philosophy: natural performance, without compromise.
Uncompromising Gravel Geometry

The geometry of the E-ASTR is identical to that of the ASTR and ASTR RS. It includes a 71.5° head tube angle for precise and responsive steering, and a 74° seat tube angle for optimal power transfer. The 75mm bottom bracket drop ensures stability at high speeds, while the short 425mm chainstays offer an agile and fun ride.

With the ASTR RS, Ridley already anticipated the trend of using increasingly wider tires in gravel competitions. During the last edition of UNBOUND—the world's most iconic gravel race—many athletes chose to ride wider tires. The generous 52mm tire clearance (in the frame and fork) remains unchanged on the E-ASTR—an additional advantage, as wider tires perfectly compensate for the extra weight of the battery and motor.
A Conscious Move Towards Electric

Ridley's decision to include e-bikes in its range was carefully considered. Over the past decade, the electric segment has established itself as an integral part of the cycling landscape—and growth is far from over. Ridley sees a broad and expanding audience—even among sport cyclists—increasingly interested in electric versions of their favorite models.

Today, the sporty e-bike segment is dominated by e-MTBs. But Ridley sees true potential in gravel. Modern e-MTBs are often heavier and more powerful than the terrain—or the rider themselves—actually requires. Some models even approach the experience of a motorcycle.

Ridley chooses a different path: light support, designed to enhance the authentic feeling of pedaling. After the launch of the E-GRIFN all-road bike, Ridley now brings this same electric philosophy to pure gravel: introducing the E-ASTR. The demand is clear—and Ridley responds with determination.

Other Ridley models will soon receive electric versions. But starting with the ASTR was a symbolic and strategic choice. The E-ASTR is a new benchmark—built on a benchmark.
Pricing

The E-ASTR is available starting from €7,199, fully equipped with SRAM Apex XPLR AXS 1x12 speed. With the upgrade to SRAM Rival XPLR, the starting price increases to €8,199. The version with Shimano GRX800 DI2 2x is priced at €8,899.
