New Mahle E-bike Motor 2026: Price, Specs, Performance, and Everything You Need to Know
Mahle has announced two significant updates for its Mahle X20 e-bike drive system, renowned for being one of the lightest on the market. The system is receiving a boost in power and torque via a firmware update and a new hardware version that is compatible with the Universal Derailleur Hanger (UDH) standard.
Mahle X20: Technical System Details
The Mahle X20 system, introduced in 2022, is notable for its overall weight of approximately 3 kg, with the rear hub motor weighing just 1.4 kg. Despite its low weight, the system initially delivered a peak power of 250W and a torque of 55Nm.
Thanks to the new firmware update, these performance metrics have been significantly improved.
Firmware Update: More Power and Torque
The new firmware, released on September 4, 2025, enhances the performance of the Mahle X20 system across all road, gravel, and urban e-bikes equipped with this motor.
Users will benefit from:
An 18% increase in torque.
A 10% increase in peak power.
The updated X20 system now delivers:
65Nm of torque.
275W of peak power.
These improvements are achieved without any change in motor weight. Bikes with the X20 system activated after August 1, 2025, will already have this update. For bikes already in use, the update will become available toward the end of 2025.
Jochen Sommer, Head of Mahle SmartBike Systems, stated that the update was developed to give riders more freedom while staying true to the brand's "Light. Sport. Smart." philosophy.
Hardware Update: UDH Compatibility
Mahle also announced a hardware evolution for the system, which is now compatible with the UDH standard. This compatibility is only available for newly produced Mahle X20 drive units.
The decision to adopt the UDH standard stems from a desire to incorporate components that offer greater protection, require less maintenance, improve shifting accuracy, and, in some cases, reduce weight.
