Colnago V4Rs 2023 which racing bike to choose, pros and cons reviews
We respond to one of our readers who asks us for advice regarding the Colnago V4Rs 2023 bike.
The new Colnago V4Rs 2023 is undoubtedly superior to the previous Colnago V2r.
Stiffer, more reactive, faster in all conditions of use.
His weight concerns are legitimate.
Compared to its rim brake, I believe that 0.5Kg is not much, but in line with the current trend.
Between discs, electronic groupsets, internal cable passages, the weight of a racing bike has risen by about 1kg and its price has doubled ...
Performance, in relation to the price increase, has not increased as much, even if you will find the new Colnago V4Rs racing bike globally superior to the V2r.
The only thing where there hasn't been any improvement is ride comfort, substantially unchanged.
Another negative aspect is the performance on the toughest climbs, where the greater weight of the bicycle can be a handicap for the athlete who does not develop many watts.
Performance on the plains and hills, on the other hand, is decidedly superior in the V4Rs.
In general, the new racing bikes require athletes who develop many watts, to such an extent that it is possible to take advantage of the greater rigidity of the frame and its better aerodynamics.
Finally a note on the through pins.
Their adoption was necessary because with disc brakes and traditional axles the wheel did not remain centered after a sharp braking, there were too many flexes.
The only solution was the adoption of the through axle, which also increases the overall weight of the bicycle, but not that of the frame.
The through axle makes the fork stiffer, therefore also more responsive when riding.
Now all this takes place on a theoretical level and bar chatter, or mega "marketing sermons" just to justify the fact that a racing bike with disc brakes must necessarily have through pins, otherwise after two hard stops you have to stop and realign front wheel and disc.
Obviously the counterpart is having an even heavier racing bike.
The modern that advances ...
In his case, since he's a fan of Colnago, I would calmly and serenely make the switch, without worrying so much about this or that.
