The R5-CX draws much of its performance and design features from the new R5, but with some key differences.

The handling and fit of this model are unique and are based on the input given by Wout and Marianne. In the lower part, the bottom bracket is about 11mm higher than that of the R5 to increase handling and facilitate overcoming of obstacles.

And most importantly, that bottom bracket is threaded into the frame. For a bicycle meant to be washed continuously and its bottom bracket removed at least a couple of times a week, a threaded solution can certainly offer greater resistance over time.

We have kept the cups asymmetrical but threaded into the frame by T47 thread. Although this solution is unprecedented in our range, the use of standard T47 caps should not be a problem in terms of availability of spare parts.

The D-section seat post (with double collar as standard) was a specific request from Wout and Marianne to ensure that the saddle always remains straight even in the event of a fall. All cables run internally and the frame is only compatible with electronic transmissions to limit the ingress of dirt and water into the frame.

The wheel arches are obviously generous to ensure optimal use even in the presence of mud and the frame will be available in four sizes: 51, 54, 56, and 58. Currently the R5-CX is only available for our racing department (with which it has already achieved two World Cup victories) because we have given priority to size 51 and 58 for Marianne and Wout, but it will be available both as a frame and as a complete bicycle, in all sizes, in the summer of 2022.
