SRAM XX DH Transmission 2026: Direct Mount Arrives in Downhill (Review, Price, Technical Specs)

SRAM XX DH Transmission: The Hangerless Revolution for Downhill

SRAM launches the XX DH Transmission, the first Direct Mount electronic drivetrain specifically designed for DH. Featuring a 7-speed cassette, ultra-short cranks, and shifting under load.

It’s Not Just a "Shortened" Eagle

While the aesthetics echo the XX Eagle series introduced in 2023, the DH variant is a completely different beast. The main difference? It is not part of the Eagle family. The "Eagle" name identifies 12-speed systems with a 520% range; here we are talking about a 7-speed system, optimized for the extreme stresses of downhill racing.

The Pillars of the New XX DH Transmission

1. The Derailleur: Stronger Than a Rock

SRAM defines the new XX DH T-Type as the most robust downhill derailleur ever built. Thanks to the Full Mount design (mounting directly to the wheel axle without a derailleur hanger), the derailleur becomes one with the frame.

Magic Shift: Thanks to "Cassette Mapping," you can change gears while pedaling at full power out of a turn or up a ramp. The system never hesitates, ensuring continuous traction.

    Price: €700 (battery not included).

2. Cranks: Aluminum and "Micro" Lengths

Unlike the carbon cranks found on the XC/Enduro versions, the XX DH relies entirely on forged aluminum.

Sizes: To prevent pedal strikes against rocks and roots, lengths range from 150mm to a maximum of 165mm.

Ochain Integration: SRAM has optimized the spiders and chainrings to work in symbiosi with Ochain systems (a brand recently acquired by SRAM), reducing pedal kickback.

    Price: €450.

3. 10-24t Cassette and the XD SLIM Standard

The new 7-speed cassette is a masterpiece of durability. However, pay close attention to compatibility:

XD SLIM Standard: This new standard allows the hub flanges to be wider, improving the wheel's bracing angle and making it stiffer.

Technical Note: The XD SLIM cassette is not compatible with standard XD driver bodies.

    Price: €500.

4. Flattop Chain and AXS Pod

The system strictly requires a Flattop chain (XX or X0 models for peak performance). On the handlebar, we find the proven AXS Pod Ultimate, which is fully customizable via the app and reversible for mounting on either the left or right side.

Why This Innovation is a Game-Changer

In a Downhill race, every fraction of a second counts. Knowing you can shift down two gears while standing on the pedals pushing 1000 Watts, without the risk of breaking the chain or hearing that dreaded "clack," is a massive psychological advantage for pros and pure fun for bike park enthusiasts.

For now, SRAM has only released the XX level (the top of the range), but if history is any indication, more accessible versions like X0 and GX DH Transmission could be arriving very soon.
