R.X2: New carbon All Mountain bike

3-in-1: Three wheel sizes in one frame

R.X+: Individually adjustable support levels

With the next evolution of the Generation X, ROTWILD continues the success story of the All Mountain concept introduced last year. The R.X2 provides highly innovative technology in many details and takes individual set-up capabilities to the next level. The full carbon frame of the R.X2 weighs in at 2,040 Gramm (size medium), which puts it on par with a full carbon race fully. At the same time, the extreme stiffness and robustness make are dialled for All Mountain riding: Out-of-saddle stiffness for efficient acceleration and head set stiffness for cornering precision.

Another novelty of the ROTWILD All Mountain concept is increased variability when it comes to wheel sizes:

29, 27.5 und 27.5+ can all be ridden using the same frame. Be it transalp, trail or traction, regardless of the size of wheel, the geometry of the R.X2 always remains unchanged. This applies particularly to steering and seat angle as well as kinematics. The same goes for the BB drop, which defines the position of the rider beneath the wheel axles. Even with a slightly higher bottom bracket height using 29” wheels, the rider remains in the same integrated position. The result: After switching out wheels no further adjustments need be made on the bike. This is a great advantage especially when it comes to the rear suspension set-up.

Just as for the R.X1 the adjustable head tube angle and variable chain stay length provide riders with even more options for individual preference. The fully integrated cable routing through the bottom bracket shell avoids tight radii and enables more precise and easier shifting through reduced friction. A custom foam liner eliminates the noise of rattling cables. Customers can choose their ideal bike from seven different R.X2 models and four frame sizes.

The R.X+ also takes the next step towards greater individualization. In future, the multi-award winning EMTB can be set up from super efficient to extremely powerful riding. This enables riders to easily tune the power levels of their bikes to their personal training goals, fitness levels or the topography of their preferred trails with some assistance by their local dealerships.

Geometry

In Depth: The Details of the R.X2 Concept

Far above standard – XCS Kinematics with 140 mm travel

For the development of the All Mountain concept the ROTWILD engineers analysed all existing systems and defined their very own approach: the XCS suspension system providing an ideal balance of accurate response and sporty forward drive.

The kinematics of the R.X models and the FOX suspension elements are finely tuned to All Mountain riding.

In particular in the initial travel range, the gradient of the spring characteristic shows significantly less drop, which means the rear suspension is easier to set up. The more linear rear spring characteristic also helps absorb small bumps. This clearly improves traction when climbing and riding over obstacles.

In the mid-range the spring curve rises linearly, providing ideal support without making the rear suspension too hard or too soft. The final range is tuned progressively: The spring curve gradient continuously increases and effectively prevents bottoming out.

The rear swing arm of the R.X2 can fit wheel sizes of up to 29”, thereby accommodating individual rider preferences. Another advantage of this constructive approach: The suspension has been designed to increase traction when pedalling (Anti-Squat-Effect).

Geometry concept One simple principle served as the conceptual guideline for the Generation X: the perfect integration of the rider in all riding situations. With the Multiple Dropout Inlays (MDI III) the rear stay length is easily adjustable. This also enables distinct set-ups depending on the rider’s height as well as individual wheel load distribution for sizes S/M and L/XL. Furthermore, the rider can take influence on the bike’s characteristics by changing the wheel stance. The short chain stays (length 422,5 mm) provide great agility for 27.5 und 27.5+ wheels. In the extended position the stays are 435 mm long: This guarantees an ideal mix of stability and playful handling for 27.5, 27.5+ and 29ers.

Additionally, interchangeable head angle cups give riders the opportunity to set the steering angle according to personal preference.

Improved bearing technology through in-house development

The bearing technology – or more precisely – the construction of the bearings has a significant influence on the responsiveness of the rear suspension. All bearings for the X-models have been modified and improved in order to increase longevity at the rear. This is achieved by using full ball bearings, which are much less likely to wear out. The bearings are specifically built wide, so that the increased surface helps prevent small relative movement.

The maintenance-free bearings are built in double rows at the Horst Link. This delivers increased stabilization surface and torsional stiffness in a confined constructive space, thereby leading to greater frame stiffness and reduced wear and tear.

The additional bearings on the suspension axle decrease friction throughout the swivel range, prevent an influence of the break away force (of the rear suspension) and provide precise responsiveness.

20 years of frame-building know-how

The R.X2 frame is fully carbon, extremely robust and yet very lightweight. This is made possible by the advanced EPS construction technology, which enables designing material thickness to more precise and continuous degrees while at the same time avoiding creases when hardening. Meticulous manufacturing and expertise guarantee extraordinary precision in production, longevity and robustness.

The self-dampening properties of carbon also have a positive influence on the riding experience: Small impacts and vibrations are absorbed by the frame while the low weight provides for great agility when descending.
