Orbea Orca Aero 2027: The New Road Bike is 21 Watts Faster

Orbea has unveiled the new Orca Orca Aero 2027, a deep update that promises to redefine standards in the WorldTour. Thanks to a development process based on total interaction between the frame and the rider, the new model boasts a claimed aerodynamic gain of 21 watts compared to the 2022 predecessor.

"Total System" Efficiency: Beyond the Wind Tunnel

Orbea has abandoned the purely theoretical approach, focusing instead on how the bike interacts with the rider. The new Orca Aero was not just tested in a wind tunnel but perfected on the track (velodrome) and through extensive road testing conducted by the pros of the Lotto-Intermarché team.

The 21-watt gain is the result of a combination of key factors:

Stability and Position: A 78mm bottom bracket drop allows the rider to sit in a lower position, reducing frontal area and improving control in high-speed corners.

Pure Aerodynamics: On the frame alone, the saving is 5.1 watts at 50 km/h.

Vibrations and Rolling Resistance: The new frame allows for the fitting of tires up to 37mm, the widest in the professional peloton. This ensures an energy saving of 6–7 watts on uneven tarmac or pavé.

Frame Technical Features

The design of the new Orbea Orca Aero has been optimized to handle wind at any yaw angle:

Sharp Front End: The head tube is extremely thin and rigid. The fork is designed to work in synergy with the down tube, which has been widened to better manage airflow around the water bottles.

Integration: Bottles are positioned to sit flush with the frame, optimizing aerodynamics without sacrificing standard round bottles.

Service Box: The practical storage compartment on the down tube returns (removable for UCI-sanctioned races), acting as an aerodynamic fairing.

Weight and Stiffness: With a frame weight of just 900g, the bike maintains stiffness comparable to a climbing bike, optimizing performance on 8% gradients.

Bespoke Ergonomics

Adaptability is the true strength of the new range. Orbea offers:

13 different handlebar/stem combinations.

40mm of vertical adjustability via spacers.

Two seatposts with offsets from 0 to 25mm.

Total customization via the MyO program.
