MERIDA presented the idea, challenge and the passion of being a co-title sponsor of BAHRAIN MERIDA Pro Cycling Team at the presentation in Royal Palace
On official presentation in a Royal Palace MERIDA as a co-title sponsor presented her ambitious and goals for supporting a BAHRAIN MERIDA Pro Cycling team.
For the first time BAHRAIN MERIDA Pro Cycling team came to Bahrain and they have been privileged and presented the team in Royal Palace to His Highness Sheikh Nasser. In the first row there were siting Mr. Wolfgang Renner, CEO Merida Europe as a co-title sponsor of the team, His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Minister of Petrol, Chairman of the National Oil and Gas who represented Babco which is a platinum sponsor. Representatives of sixteen local sponsors ALBA, Batelco, EDB, Bahrain National Bank, ZAIN, GFH Finance Group, Mumtalakat, First Energy Bank, VIVA, Kuwait Bahrain Bank "BBK", Islamic Bahrain Bank, Mohamed Jalal & Sons, Lulu Hyper Market, SEEF Real Estate, Bank Al Salam and Business Man.
Shaikh Nasser in his opening speech represented how it came to the idea of having a Pro Cycling Team in Bahrain. He affirmed Bahrain’s status as a home to many sports which enjoy high popularity worldwide, including cycling, pointing out that forming the team and its participation in many world championships will undoubtedly contribute to boosting Bahrain’s image and role.
After His Highness impressive speech Mr. Wolfgang Renner, CEO Merida Europe presented MERIDA as a company and explained their role, their goals and nevertheless the passion which leads them to develop the best bikes in the world and contribute to riders to achieve highest goals. The MERIDA brand is available in 88 countries, but so far their presence is the Middle East is very limited. The opportunity to support the ambitions of the BAHRAIN MERIDA Pro Cycling Team to introduce the sport of cycling in all it’s facets to the country and the region was an important one to get involved with. MERIDA also sees the sport of cycling as a real leveller and the perfect vehicle to introduce an active and healthy lifestyle to the region and exactly that was also a common line with the strategy of Bahrain as a country. With the broad range of bicycles from mountain bikes, via hybrids, fitness and road bikes all the way to kids and eBikes – the bike clearly offers endless opportunities for everyone as a form of transport, a way to enjoy a healthy lifestyle or as sports equipment for the enthusiast. The ‘Tour of Dubai’ and the ‘Tour of Oman’ as well as the Road Racing World Championships, which took place Qatar in October 2016, have already started to introduce the world of road racing to the Gulf region. As much as for MERIDA as for Bahrain it would be a great experience that one day they will race with MERIDA bikes on the roads of Bahrain.
Mr. Brent Copeland, general Manager BAHRAIN MERIDA Pro Cycling Team expressed his thanks to sponsor that they have strongly believed into the project from the very beginning and he promised that the team will strive to have the highest image and that it will present Bahrain and MERIDA in the world as a high class team.
Moderator presented all riders each by each and riders had a chance to be one day without jersey and they showed how elegant they can be.
After the presentation the team and representatives of MERIDA had an honor to be invited to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa in Safriya Palace. The honorary guest were Personal representatives of HM the King for Charity Work and Youth Affairs, Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sport and President of Bahrain Olympic Committee Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
Shaikh Nasser presented HM the King with a briefing on the goals of the team who will take a part in many championships as well as the team’ promotional strategy of Bahrain.
MERIDA as a co-title sponsor with their representatives, all the members of the team, staff and
riders presented themselves personally to HM the King. MERIDA gave HH the KING as a present the same model of the racing bike like riders will soon use on the first races in their first season riding in colors of Bahrain.
